Injury Prevention SIG

The Injury Prevention SIG is a very active group of injury prevention trauma nurses and trauma nurses interested in the promotion and advancement of injury prevention.

 

Trauma Curriculum Developers Needed

November 2013: Trauma prevention is an integral part of any sustainable trauma program. Many centers are required to have injury prevention coordinators yet no educational program currently exists to train for these positions and to ensure that the person holding the position has the best opportunity for success. STN and ATS are developing a 2 day course outlining the necessary skills and knowledge required to assist an injury prevention coordinator to be successful in their role. The identified curriculum topics suggested are:

  • Public Health Model for Injury Prevention
  • Psychology of Injury
  • Data/Epidemiology
  • Program Development
  • Designing interventions

  • Evaluation of programs
  • Resources for success
