STN Webinar: Advanced Practice Providers Role in Trauma Care: The Nitty Gritty

Research has shown that the use of APPs in the care of the trauma patient offers a positive impact on patient care. In this talk, we will discuss how one level one trauma center has successfully implemented APPs into their team. What worked, what didn't, and the growing pains along the way. How efforts to improve provider and attending relations allowed our team to thrive. Why a strong education and orientation program is paramount to having a successful team. Tips for having a successful trauma APP group for your trauma team.

Speaker:
Marisa Laing is an Advanced Practice Provider and Trauma Surgical Coordinator at The University of Kansas Health System, a Level I ACS-verified Trauma Center. With over 25 years of nursing experience and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Wichita State University, she brings a deep clinical acumen and leadership to trauma care, APP team management, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Her career spans emergency, trauma, and acute care settings, including leadership roles in high-volume emergency departments. She is board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Her commitment to education is evident in her role as adjunct faculty at Rockhurst University, where she mentors future nurse practitioners through clinical practicums and simulation instruction.
