PI - Quality Improvement Initiatives

The Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) has established a Trauma Performance Improvement Special Interest Group (Trauma PI SIG), designed to bring together STN members who are responsible for trauma performance improvement initiatives within their institutions and/or interested in advancing trauma PI best practices.

Kate Stearnes is the Adult Trauma Coordinator at Henry Ford St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. St. John Hospital is an ACS verified Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric combined trauma center. Kate has 10 years of nursing experience with 16 years in various roles in the medical field. Before trauma she was in the surgical/trauma intensive care unit for several years taking care of some of Detroit’s sickest patients. Kate is a TNCC instructor and has a strong passion for educating on trauma prevention and preparation.

Liz Mondragon is the Trauma Program Manager at UCHealth Poudre Valley Hospital in Northern Colorado. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wyoming in 2013. She spent the first eight years of her career working in the Emergency Department, the last two as a charge nurse of a Level II trauma center. She then transitioned to Trauma Services at a Level III center in Fall 2021. She is an instructor for ATCN and a member of STN. She is the co-chair of the STN PI SIG for Quality Improvement Initiatives and on the Colorado Trauma Network PI Committee.
