Vicki Bennett, MSN, RN

Vicki is currently the Executive Director, Trauma Services for Banner Health. She was a TPM/Director for over 25 years prior to assuming this executive leadership role in 2016. She completed both undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing at the University of Alabama. She is active at the local, state and national levels and holds membership in many professional organizations. She is a member of the EAST guidelines committee and leading the EAST- STN collaboration for PMG development.



Cynthia Blank-Reid, MSN, RN, TCRN, CEN

Cindy has been a nurse for over 35 years. She has worked in many areas over her career from a surgical floor, trauma/neurosurgical ICU, ED, pre-hospital setting and a Trauma Program Manager. For the past 17 years she has been the Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialist at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. She has published and lectured on a multitude of nursing topics. She is a charter member of STN, worked on numerous committees, served on the Board of Directors and is a Past President.



Joseph Blansfield, MSN, RN, ANP-BC, TCRN

Joseph Blansfield has a clinical background of 45 years, including as Trauma Program Manager for the Level I Trauma Center at Boston Medical Center. He is a ret. COL in the U.S. Army Reserve with 26 years of service & deployments to Kosovo and Iraq. He earned the Bronze Star Medal as Chief Nurse. He was the Chair of the TNCC 8th ed. revision and is on the Exam Construction and Review Committee for the TCRN credential from BCEN. He is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Emergency Nursing.



Valerie Brockman, MSN, RN, CAISS, CPHQ, CSTR

Valerie Brockman is the southern region Trauma Clinical Quality Specialist Lead at UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central Level I Trauma Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Valerie has her Masters of Science in Nursing and is actively pursuing her. In addition to this education, she is a Certified Specialist Trauma Registrar (CSTR), Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) and Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ). Valerie began her career as a bedside nurse in the Intensive Care Unit and later transitioned to trauma services in 2013. Over the past nine years, she has served in a variety of trauma quality roles at Level I through III trauma centers. In addition to her role in the hospital setting, she serves as a state nurse reviewer in Colorado. She also was vice president of the Colorado Trauma Network. On an international platform Valerie is the digital editor for the Journal of Trauma Nursing and is chair of the Leadership Development committee for the Society of Trauma Nurses. She lives in Colorado and enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors.



Angela Chisolm, BSN, MBA/HCM, CFRN, TCRN

Angie is a Consulting Manager with Philips, a consulting practice that helps trauma centers enhance operational and financial performance. Prior to Philips, Angie was a Division Assistant Vice President for Trauma Services and served as Chair of the network-wide Evidenced Based Practice Committee. Angie has served on many state and national trauma committees during her tenure as a Trauma Program Director. She is a Trauma Certified Registered Nurse and Certified Flight Registered Nurse.



Jessica Cofran, MSN, RN, TCRN, CSTR

Jessica is a Trauma Informatics Manager for the UCHealth Northern Colorado Region. She has 12 years trauma nursing experience with specialty in trauma critical care, emergency care, trauma registry, and process improvement. Jessica has been an active part of the Colorado Trauma Community for the past 7 years and is currently serving as the Vice President of the Colorado Trauma Network, as well as an active member of the Society of Trauma Nurses Leadership Development Committee and American Trauma Society Trauma Nurse Leadership Council. Jessica has special interest in utilizing technology to elevate performance improvement processes and develop regional systemization and inter-facility collaboration.



Susan Cronn, DNP, RN

Susan Cronn is a Trauma Surgery NP at the Medical College of Wisconsin/Froedtert Hospital, a level 1 Trauma Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was a Clinical Assistant Professor at UW-Milwaukee until recently, when she became the first Hargarten Injury Prevention Fellow at the Comprehensive Injury Center of MCW. She has presented at multiple national and international conferences on trauma, with topics ranging from capnography to hospital-based violence interruption programs.



Stephanie Davidson, DO, FASA

Dr. Stephanie Davidson specializes in Pediatric Cardiac and General Pediatric Anesthesia. Her practice also consists of adult anesthesia for general surgical, orthopedic, neurosurgery, and adult cardiac procedures.

Dr. Davidson attended the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and completed her Internship at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix Arizona. She completed her Anesthesia residency at the University of California -Davis and her Pediatric Fellowship at the Denver Children’s Hospital.



Osama El Dik, BS, MS

Osama El Dik was born in Sidon, Lebanon, in 1978. He received the B.S. degree in Nursing from the Lebanese University in 2003, and the Master’s in nursing leadership and management from Walden University in 2015.

In 2004, he joined the American University of Beirut Medical Center as a respiratory care unit staff nurse and was then appointed as the clinical educator for ED, PACU, and Psychiatry ward in 2008. Moved to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2010 in the capacity of nurse supervisor at the International Medical Center and was given the responsibility of establishing a remote health service center providing in-hospital and pre-hospital care to one of the largest combined refining and petrochemical companies in the region. Established policies and procedures for nurse lead clinics and created emergency response procedures for an industrial setting. Handling emergencies of industrial nature are the main focus of his responsibilities yet he is also interested in the hospital’s multiple trauma management and accessibility as well as trauma team wellbeing.



Craig Field, PhD, MPH

Craig Field is a clinical health psychologist and Associate Professor at The University of Texas at El Paso. He is also Director of the Latinx Alcohol and Health Disparities Research and Training Center. He has conducted large scale, federally funded randomized clinical trials in Level I Trauma Centers evaluating the effectiveness of brief interventions for alcohol and drug use among injured patients.



Nick Fiore, MD, FACS

Dr. Nick Fiore earned his undergraduate degree in English and pre-professional studies from the University of Notre Dame and went on to earn his medical doctorate at Indiana University School of Medicine in 1990. He completed his general surgery training at the University of New Mexico and Indiana University and his fellowship at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University.

Dr. Fiore moved to Las Vegas in 1998 where he has been a part of a very busy private practice, Pediatric Surgery Associates. He has served as chief of surgery at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and on the Medical Executive Committees (MEC) for Sunrise and Summerlin hospitals. Currently, he is the medical director of the Pediatric Trauma Program at Sunrise Hospital and the MEC representative for pediatric surgery at Summerlin Hospital. In addition, Dr. Fiore also is a member of the American Pediatric Surgery Association and its Practice Committee. He also serves as secretary of the Clark County Medical Society.



Alice A. Gervasini, PhD, RN, NE-BC

Alice A. Gervasini is the Nurse Director for the Division of Trauma, Emergency Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. She has 40 years experience in the management of trauma and acute care surgical patients, trauma systems design, and injury prevention. In conjunction with the Medical Director, she is responsible for the overall program dynamics for both the ACS Level 1 adult and ACS Level 1 pediatric trauma programs. She received her BS in nursing from American University, a Masters Degree from University of Maryland Baltimore with a focus on trauma nursing, and a PhD in Nursing from Boston College. Research interests include clinical practice, trauma epidemiology and injury prevention. She has published numerous articles and spoken nationally and internationally on many trauma related topics. Recent publications focused on community initiatives, include investigation into the impact of graduated driver licensing laws, and clinical practices around the management of sports related concussions. She contributes to the Acute Care NP curriculum and serves on the advisory board for the PhD program at Northeastern University and is an Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School. She has been actively involved in the Society of Trauma Nurses since its inception and served in many leadership roles including President of the Society 1993-1994. Alice is currently a member of the Society’s research committee and represents the Society on the advisory board of the Coalition for National Trauma Research (CNTR).



Melissa Hall, MSN, RN

Melissa Hall is the Trauma Program Director at Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, with over a decade of trauma leadership experience. Melissa has been a registered nurse for 20 years in emergency medicine and trauma, working in various roles as a pediatric ED nurse, forensic nurse, trauma education coordinator, and injury prevention coordinator. She is active at the local, state and national levels and has a special interest in trauma systems management and leadership development. Melissa is the incoming Chair for the Society of Trauma Nurses Leadership Development Committee.



Debbie Harrell, MSN, RN, NE-BC

Debbie Harrell, Director of Professional Relations, Shriners Children's Ohio, has specialized with burn care for more than 30 years, directing the burn unit and presenting burn education. She has participated in burn care research and developed teaching tools and lectures about lighter safety, burn prevention and burn care. She has presented burn care education to all levels of healthcare professionals at national, state and regional meetings; hospital grand rounds; regional and local EMS organizations; and to family/pediatric practitioners.



Melissa Harte, DNP, MSHA, RN, TCRN

Melissa A. Harte brings 35 years of experience in trauma nursing, in a wide range of areas including adult and pediatric emergency/critical care. Dr. Harte has served in level 1 and community trauma centers from coast to coast. Melissa serves as Vice President of Trauma Services, is a board certified trauma nurse, the Past-President of the STN, a TNCC instructor, and is also lead facilitator for the Society of Trauma Nurses TCRN preparation course.



Ellen Harvey, DNP, RN, ACNS-BC, CCRN, TCRN, FCCM

Ellen Harvey is a surgical critical care Clinical Nurse Specialist in an academic Level 1 trauma center. She has thirty-nine years of acute care nursing experience in care of adult and pediatric injured patients and is a Fellow in the American College of Critical Care Medicine. Her doctoral research and publications are on prevention of failure to rescue in hospitalized patients, and she has published and presented extensively on acute care, critical care, trauma and multidisciplinary topics.



Kelsey Higgins, MS, RD, LD, CNSC

Kelsey Higgins is the Clinical Nutrition Manager at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN overseeing a team of 15 dietitians and two medical campuses. With 6 years of experience in clinical nutrition, she has a strong passion for critical care and enteral and parenteral nutrition. Kelsey also has 5 years of experience as a former private practice dietitian working with sports nutrition and disordered eating clients.



Jess Hobbs, DO, FACEP

Dr. Jessica Hobbs has been the Medical Director of the Memorial Emergency Department, a Level One Trauma Center in Greenville, South Carolina. She is also the Medical Director of the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner program at Prisma Health for the last five years. She services as the alternate councilor for the Forensic Medicine Section of the American College of Emergency Medicine Physicians.



Minna Hong

Minna Hong is many things to many people. She flows gracefully through the titles given to her by birth, society, and circumstances. She sustained a spinal cord injury from a car accident in 1999 that changed the course of her life. She became a widow and a single mother of 2 young kids in an instant. After a painful 2 years of mourning her personal loss, she went to work. She rested her old self to give life to her new self in her new body. She worked hard as a SCI Peer Support manager at Shepherd Center for 18 years. She was very instrumental in creating a scientific evidence-based program to prove the efficacy of peer support through PCORI Grant. This research changed the way rehabilitation hospitals view the peer support program. It became a standard practice to be recognized as a rehabilitation facility. She was the winner of the Hospital Hero Award by the Georgia Healthcare Association for her work. Minna recently retired to pursue her passions; disability advocacy and her love of creating art. Her goal is to infuse the two in various mediums of artistic expression. “Nothing about us without us”. This is her way of giving back to the community that has been so generous to her life journey. She is committed to creating a community where ALL are welcome at the table.

Hong currently serves on the Delta Airline Disability Advisory Board, the United Spinal Advisory Board, and is a New Mobility Magazine Community Partner and Path To Shine Art Instructor.



Leslie Horton, RN, CCRN-K, MBA, IACP CDT, CDTA, PDTI, CSDT, Certified ADA Coordinator

Leslie started the Animal Assisted Care (AAC) Program on the Inova Fairfax Hospital Campus in 2001. The Inova Fairfax Hospital Campus includes 4 acute care hospitals and has over a 900-bed capacity. As the coordinator of the AAC Program, Leslie oversees the handler/canine teams and built an animal assisted care program that is internationally recognized as a leader in animal-assisted therapy. She and her first canine Pet Partner, Chug, were recipients of the Delta Society 2005 Beyond Limits Award for Outstanding AAT Professionals. Leslie is Pet Partner Team Member with 4 dogs, and is a Pet Partner Team Instructor and Evaluator. She is a registered nurse with over 30 years of experience in trauma and intensive care nursing and holds current specialty certification in adult critical care nursing.

Leslie is the founder of Most Fine Canine Inc. which has been training dogs and their handlers since March 2000. She holds certifications as a dog trainer, dog trainer advanced, professional dog trainer instructor, service dog trainer, canine athlete specialist, and Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator. Leslie is a final placement trainer for service dogs for children and adults with neurological and mobility disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, degenerative arthritis, autism, hearing disorders, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries.



Darrell Hunt, MD, PhD, FACS

Dr. Darrell L. Hunt was named the Trauma Medical Director of TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN in February of 2021. Dr. Hunt completed medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. He then completed his residency in General Surgery, PhD in molecular cell biology, and Fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Florida in Gainesville. In his free time, Dr. Hunt enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.



George Kasotakis, MD, MPH, FACS, FCCM

Dr. George Kasotakis is Assistant Professor of Surgery at Duke University School of Medicine in the Division of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery. He completed his residency training in general surgery at Creighton University and his fellowship in acute care surgery at Harvard. He serves as Chair of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma Guideline Committee and is actively involved in educating/mentoring on GRADE as well as in the development of multiple Practice Management Guidelines.



Ellen Kennedy, BSN, RN, SANE-A

Ellen Kennedy has served as the SANE Coordinator for Prisma Health Upstate since April 2018. Since that time, she has helped guide the creation of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program that offers 24/7/365 coverage for 4 counties in Upstate South Carolina. She also is the recipient of a $1 million dollar HRSA grant to recruit and train SANE staff in rural areas.



Lisa Kodadek, MD

Dr. Lisa Kodadek is Assistant Professor of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine in the Division of General Surgery, Trauma and Surgical Critical Care. She completed her training in general surgery at Johns Hopkins and her fellowship in acute care surgery and surgical critical care at Vanderbilt. She serves as Vice Chair of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma Guideline Committee and is actively involved in development of multiple Practice Management Guidelines.



Amy Krichten, MSN, RN, CEN, TCRN

Amy serves as the Director of Accreditation for the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation. She is a consultant and site surveyor for trauma systems across the United States and has spent her twenty-plus years of nursing in the trauma spectrum including roles of a Trauma Program Manager, Nurse Manager ~Trauma/Neuro ICU, Emergency Department Manager and Educator and Orthopedics Clinical Operations Manager. Amy is a Director at Large for the national Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) and the founding co-chair of the STN Leadership Committee. She is a contributing author and instructor for the TOPIC Course, and currently serves as an item writer for the BCEN/TCRN examination. Amy has several publications to her credit, including topics such as Crew Resource Management, Leadership and Injury Prevention.



Jessie Levy, MSW, LCSW

Jessie Levy is the Manager of Trauma Patient Support Services at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a licensed clinical social worker. Jessie has almost 15 years as a practicing social worker and more than 10 years in a leadership role. Jessie has worked in a number of human services fields including child welfare, domestic violence, conflict resolution, housing and homelessness, and medical social work. Jessie is passionate about teaching a new generation of social workers as an internship placement instructor for local universities. When not working, you can find Jessie chasing around her very busy and loquacious toddler.



Mary Maginas, RN, BSN, MSN, CPNP

Mary Maginas is a Trauma Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at a CHOC, a Pediatric Level II Trauma Center in Orange, California, with over a decade of Pediatric experience. In her current role she manages admitted Trauma patients on the Trauma service, and is involved in evaluation, creation and compliance with Trauma-specific guidelines. Prior to this role, she has had extensive experience managing Neurosurgery and Trauma patients at Level 1 Trauma Centers.



Jane McCormack, BSN

Jane McCormack has over 25 years of experience as a trauma program manager. She relies heavily on high quality trauma registry data to 'drive' the trauma program. Jane believes strongly that trauma registry professionals are often the overlooked members of the trauma team. This presentation focuses on helping the data users to understand the registry processes, regulation, and unique challenges and thereby enhance data quality.



Maria McMahon, MSN, RN, PNP-PC/AC, TCRN

Maria McMahon, MSN, RN, PNP-PC/AC, TCRN is the Trauma Center Manager at Boston Children’s Hospital. She has practiced trauma and critical care nursing for 30 years and has worked at Boston Children's Hospital for the last 24 years. She began her nursing career in the pediatric ICU, then on the Critical Care Transport Team before becoming the Trauma Center Manager in 2006. Maria maintains her certifications as a Primary Care and Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She provides strong leadership and demonstrates her advanced clinical skills providing exceptional patient care. She works with the Trauma team, clinical staff, and multidisciplinary services staff throughout Boston Children’s Hospital to ensure current evidenced based practice information and education is available to better care for the injured child. Maria is actively involved in several professional organizations, and has presented on the topic of pediatric trauma and injury prevention, both nationally and internationally. Maria is currently the President for the Society of Trauma Nurses.



Vicki Moran, PhD, RN, CNE, MPH, APHN-BC, CDE, TNS

Vicki Moran is the coordinator of trauma research at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. Her clinical background as an intensive care unit and emergency room RN has perpetuated a wealth of knowledge to conduct trauma research. She completed her BSN in 1994, MSN/MPH in 1997, and her PhD in higher education administration in 2015. She is also an assistant professor of nursing at Saint Louis University. She has published manuscripts focusing on care of the traumatic patient with a variety of interdisciplinary providers. Her current focus in working with three other Level I trauma centers in Saint Louis, Missouri to reduce recidivism of victims exposed to violence.



Katie Phillips, MSN, RN, CEN, SANE

Katie Phillips is an Education Resource Specialist at WakeMed Health and Hospitals in Raleigh, North Carolina. She has been a registered nurse for 16 years with a background in emergency nursing. She has held positions in staffing and leadership, and she is also a sexual assault nurse examiner. She obtained her Master in Nursing Education from Western Carolina University.



Jordan Rahm, BA

Jordan Rahm is a dedicated Trauma Research Specialist for TriStar Skyline Medical Center. She graduated from Wake Forest University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Entrepreneurship. In 2020, she graduated with a Graduate Certificate in Medical Physiology from the University of Florida College of Medicine. Jordan previously pursued her passion for research through clinical research roles at the Vanderbilt Memory & Alzheimer’s Center and the Drapkin Lab at the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently pursuing her Master degree in Public Health at the University of Tennessee. In her spare time, Jordan loves to read, cycle, and spend time with family and friends.



Kristen Ray, MSN, RN, CCRN, TCRN

Kristen Ray is the Clinical Quality Nurse Leader at UF Health Jacksonville for the ED, Trauma and pediatric ED in Jacksonville, Florida. Kristen Ray has worked at a number of level one trauma centers though out the east coast, including R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD; University Hospital in Newark, NJ & Inova Medical Center, in Virginia. She has had a variety of positions from bedside nursing in the ICU/ ED/ trauma bay to trauma educator, assistant trauma registrar coordinator, or her current position in quality. Kristen has lectured numerous times at the regional, state and national level.



Michael Rosenblatt, MD, MPH, MBA, FACS

Dr. Rosenblatt has been director of the Trauma Service at Lahey Hospital since the inception of the program in 1995. He also serves as Chief Medical Officer of Lahey Hospital. He recently served on the Injury Prevention Committee of the American Association for Surgery of Trauma. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University, Jefferson Medical College and received his surgical and critical care training in the Boston University Affiliated Surgical Residency Program.



Gloria Salazar, MSN, RN, MA, LPC, CA-CP SANE

Gloria Salazar has been a UMC employee since 1974 and a nurse since 1982. Gloria has developed the SANE program in El Paso since 2006 and in 2013 she was selected by the Office of Attorney General to coordinate the first SANE training for nurses to become SANE certified for the Adult/Adolescent and Pediatric population. In 2017, Gloria developed and implemented the Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) at a Trauma Level I Center and SANE program.



Diana Skaff MBA-M, BSN, RN

Ms. Skaff is a seasoned and dedicated healthcare executive leveraging 17+ years of experience in healthcare, patient-family centered care, cost control, and revenue opportunities to grow hospital operations, improve quality of care, and propone advances in healthcare provision. She started her career as a Registered Nurse and specialized in Emergency Medicine and Trauma, then expanded her expertise through the diversification of her Career Path. She acquired her BSN in 2004, her MBA in 2016 with emphasis on Management, and is now a Doctor Candidate in Business Administration with an emphasis on Healthcare Management.

She has qualifications in Research, Education, Simulation, and Business Research Analysis. She led multiple projects in these areas, published papers, and developed content and curricula for the same.

Her diverse training allowed her to co-found and lead her Management Consultancy Company where the aim is to drive business growth, increase organizational effectiveness and improve employee morale by implementing performance enhancement strategies, building and strengthening leadership development initiatives, talent revitalization, building strong structures to transform non-compliant, underperforming units and programs into revenue-generating ventures.

She currently also is the Business consultant for Academic Affairs at the Academy of Sciences – Riyadh KSA, and manager of the HCPC and ALTC conferences. She is also the international member of the Society of Trauma Nurses Leadership Development Committee, ATCN Director and Instructor, ATLS coordinator, and PHTLS director, coordinator and instructor.



Deborah M. Stein, MD, MPH

Deborah M. Stein earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University, her Medical Degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and her Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health with certificates in both Injury Control and Health Policy. She completed her general surgery residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a fellowship in Trauma/Surgical Critical Care at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and has subspecialty certification from the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties in Neurocritical Care. She is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Critical Care Medicine.

Upon completion of her fellowship in 2004, Dr. Stein joined the faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor. In 2009, she was promoted to Associate Professor and received Tenure in 2013. She was promoted to Professor with Tenure in 2015. In 2016 Dr. Stein was named the R Adams Cowley Professor in Shock and Trauma. Since completing her fellowship, Dr. Stein has served in a number of roles at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. She currently serves as the Medical Director for Neurotrauma Critical Care, Medical Director for the Trauma Resuscitation Unit, Co-Director of the Neurotrauma Center for the State of Maryland, and as the Chief of Trauma at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

Dr. Stein has authored 150+ peer-reviewed articles and 16 book chapters. Her national service includes active participation in major trauma, critical care, and surgical societies including serving as Secretary, Executive Board Member, Board of Directors, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma. She serves as Chair of the Research Committee and Member of the EMS, TQIP and Membership Committees for the American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma. She serves as Chair of the Geriatric Trauma/ACS Committee for the American Assoication for the Surgery of Trauma and is a Member of the Scholarship Committee for the American College of Surgeons. She also serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and is an Examination Consultant for the Board of Surgery.



Francesca Sullivan, RN, BSN

Francesca Sullivan has been a registered nurse for the past 25 years. She has spent most of her career working in a level 1 Adult trauma Center in Queens NY. For the last six years she has spent her career in the trauma program, initially as the performance improvement coordinator and currently as the trauma program director. In these two positions, Francesca has initiated and maintained performance improvement projects in order to enhance patient care in the realm of trauma.



Melissa Wholeben, PhD, RN, CNE, TCRN

Melissa Wholeben is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing with a well-established professional background in education and hands-on patient care. Areas of practice include the emergency room, nursing education, and EMS-Paramedic. Her primary research themes center on Emergency Preparedness, Disaster Management, and Trauma Care. Her current research projects include Trauma-Informed Care, PTSD/Stress Management, and Emergency-Disaster Curriculum drills/training.



Jenny Youngberg, MSSW, CSW

Jenny Youngberg is a Trauma Program Social Worker at The University of Louisville Hospital, housed under the Trauma Institute. Jenny’s primary role as a specialized trauma social worker is to provide psychosocial support to patients and their families as well as community resource connection for post discharge support, including, but not limited to, mental health providers, primary care physicians, and therapeutic resources. She also ensures programmatic aspects of the program are being maintained. This includes peer support coordination and trauma support group facilitation. Jenny has a passion for canine assisted intervention when it comes to providing non-pharmacological interventions for patients to better manage pain and anxiety as well as providing additional support to staff. She has 2 years of experience as a social worker and a year-and-a half of experience as a facility dog handler. Jenny received her Bachelor of Social Work from The University of Kentucky in 2014 and a Master of Science in Social Work with a specialization in Psychosocial Oncology in 2019 from The University of Louisville.
